Support for Postgraduate Research in the Unit

The Unit supports postgraduate researchers in their academic and wider professional development. All students are encouraged to apply to the University’s Student Engagement Fund, which enables students to present at external conferences or other industry, arts or policy events.

Professional training is also offered through workshops focusing on areas such as how to get published in academic journals and how to curate practice research exhibitions.

The Unit supports students to access wider opportunities and learning by encouraging engagement with subject associations and other formal and informal networks. The Unit has also supported doctoral candidates to be temporarily seconded into fixed-term research posts where they can gain skills and experience of grant-funded research projects.

Additionally, all students are encouraged to present at the annual postgraduate research symposium, which enables students to develop confidence in presenting their research, allows them to receive feedback beyond supervisory teams and to gain insight into the broader post graduate research taking place across the Unit.
